Openings in East Asia and India - American Baptist International Ministries

There are two new openings in my area, one in Hong Kong and one in the Philippines. Please spread the words, and ask God to provide the right persons to the respective ministries. International Ministries strives to develop an inclusive missionary force that reflects the ethnic/cultural diversity of American Baptist Churches.

(A) Appointment by International Ministries

1. China: Theological Educator
Teach Biblical study in a theological seminary in China. Work and cultural experience in China is preferred. Doctoral degree in the area of teaching is required. Mandarin (Chinese) language is a plus but not required.

2. Hong Kong: Leadership Development
Provide pastoral and spiritual support to Christian leaders of Baptist churches in Hong Kong. Will involve in formal or informal leaders training and theological education. Work and cultural experience in Hong Kong is preferred. Will require to learn Chinese (Cantonese) language.

3. Hong Kong: Mission Mobilization
Develop, coordinate and promote mission projects, volunteer service, and mission teams in Hong Kong. Work and cultural experience in Hong Kong is preferred. Will require to learn Chinese (Cantonese) language. Mandarin (Chinese language) is a plus.

4. Philippines: Leaders Development (NEW) Serve with the Convention of Philippines Baptist Churches promoting leaders training in seminary and church settings. Will work under the leadership of Filipino Baptists. Require a graduate degree in theology. Work and cultural experience in the Philippines is a plus. The learning of Ilonggo language is required.

5. Philippines: Music Teacher
Teach music in a Bible school in the Philippines. Will work under the leadership of Filipino Baptists. Work and cultural experience in the Philippines is a plus. The learning of Ilonggo language is required.

6. Philippines: Theological Educator
Teach Biblical study in a Bible school in the Philippines. Will work under the leadership of Filipino Baptists. Require a graduate degree in the area if teaching. Work and cultural experience in the Philippines is plus. The learning of Ilonggo language is required.

(B) Appointment by International Ministries and Church World Service

China: English Teacher
Teach English in junior college/ college in Mainland China under the arrangement of the Amity Foundation. A Bachelor degree is required and an ESL degree and/or teaching experience is preferred. (C) Appointment by International Ministries and University Baptist Church

Youth Pastor (NEW)
Serve with the University Baptist Church in Hong Kong that provides pastoral care and spiritual nourishment to overseas staff and students of the Hong Kong Baptist University. The youth pastor will focus on the ministry with the English speaking children and youth. A Master of Divinity Degree or equivalent degree is required. Chinese language is a plus but not required. Enjoy working in an urban and multi-cultural setting. It requires two-year commitment in the first term of service

(D) Direct Hiring by Overseas Partners

India: Teachers

Teach English to PH.D. Degree Students (Fall 2007 Semester)

1 Teacher to teach English in a leading university in Beijing.

The host institute will provide free housing, with kitchen, bathroom, air conditioning, telephone, TV and Internet hook-up. Monthly stipends are more than sufficient for living in China.

Commitment: One semester

Requirements: Mature Christian. BA degree with teaching experience. TESL certificate required.

Teaching Assignments: One semester only. 12 hours per week.

Class: 30-35 students (Ph.D Candidates in various majors).

Curriculum: Established.

Additional requirements: Able to join ERRC Orientation in Oakland, CA in mid-August , debt free, with a strong and supportive church.

Teach Business English to Government Officials (September 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008)

2 teachers to teach business English at an English Training Center in Beijing, and 2 teachers to teach business English at an English Training Center located at a leading university in Taian (a midsize city near Jinan, Shandong).

The host institute will provide free housing, with kitchen, bathroom, air conditioning, telephone, TV and Internet hook-up, one free meal daily and reimbursement for international round trip airfare. Monthly stipends are more than sufficient for living in China.

Commitment: One year.

Requirements: Mature Christian. BA degree with work experience. TESL certificate required. Business background preferred.

Teaching Assignments: English. 16+ hours per week.

Class: 20 students. Government officials preparing to study or visit abroad.

Curriculum: Established, immersion learning environment.

Additional requirements: Able to join ERRC Orientation in Oakland, CA in mid-August, debt free, with a strong and supportive church.

Teach English to Undergraduate Students (September 1, 2007 – June 2008)

1 teacher to teach English and 1 to teach Business English at a a leading university in Tianjin.

The host institute will provide free housing, with shared kitchen, bathroom, air conditioning, telephone, TV and Internet hook-up and reimburse international airfare. Monthly stipends are more than sufficient for living in China.

Commitment: One year.

Requirements: Mature Christian. BA degree with teaching experience. TESL certificate required.

Teaching Assignments: Teach English to English major students or to business major students 12 -16 hours per week.

Class: 30-35 Undergraduate students.

Curriculum: some curriculum materials are available, but supplementary materials needed

Additional requirements: Able to join ERRC Orientation in Oakland, CA in mid-August, debt free, with a strong and supportive church.

Requirements: Mature Christian. BA degree with 2 years teaching experience. TESL certificate required.

Title: Director of Congregational Giving

Major Responsibilities:
· Develop and implement strategies for engaging congregations that have already demonstrated their support for IM and deepen that relationship;
· Coordinate efforts to cultivate relationships with churches;
· Develop strategies to help churches increase giving to the World Mission Offering;
· Participate in national, regional and local events, church seminars and workshops; and
· Identify, with Mission Partnership Coordinators and Missionary Partnership Teams (MPTs) ways in which to support the fundraising efforts of MPTs.

Minimum Qualifications:
· BA or BS required; MA, MS or MBA preferred;
· Minimum of 5-7 years of development experience with successful track record of having deepened relationships with existing donors (churches or individuals) while cultivating new relationships, preferably in a faith-based environment;
· Proven understanding of local congregational realities and perspectives;
· Passion for International Ministries and an ability to translate that passion into a personal and team-wide pursuit of IM’s fundraising goals;
· Ability to interpret the mission, missiology and vision of IM;
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
· Cross cultural experience preferred;
· Ability and desire for extensive travel – job requires 50% travel; and
· Member of an ABC church.

Title: Team Leader and Director of Communication and Marketing

Location: Valley Forge, PA

Major Responsibilities:
· Guide the marketing and communications effort of IM in coordination with the Director of Development. This involves both direct leadership in developing plans and tools, as well as helping colleagues throughout the organization recognize and respond effectively to marketing opportunities;
· Coordinate and supervise the work of IM’s Mission Education, Communications and Events team. Delegate work among the staff and hold them accountable for meeting deadlines;
· Join with senior staff colleagues in working with the Board to set direction, priorities and policies; and
· Participate with colleagues within ABC on shared projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
The Team Leader must be able to communicate effectively in writing, must have the ability to manage a team of creative people, must have an ability to identify and capitalize on communication and marketing opportunities and must have – or quickly acquire – an understanding of IM’s core missiological commitments, style and primary constituencies. In addition:
· Bachelor’s degree in communications or related discipline required; graduate degree preferred;
· Minimum of 7 years work experience in marketing, communications or public relations required;
· Minimum of 5 years management experience (supervising staff, managing budgets) required;
· Passion for International Ministries and an ability to translate that passion into a personal and team-wide pursuit of IM’s fundraising goals;
· Expertise in non-profit marketing and fundraising preferred;
· Knowledge of American Protestant church life and mission required; knowledge of ABC preferred;

Major Responsibilities:
· Plan, develop and manage the overall development efforts of IM in coordination with the Director of Communication and Marketing. Strategic direction for overall development plan will be determined by this position. Responsibilities will include “mining” giving data and conducting research to determine the most promising fundraising initiatives;
· In coordination with the Executive Director and Treasurer, set annual fundraising goals for development team members; supervise and coach development team members;
