Director of Training - LEAP (Los Angeles)

Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics, Inc. (LEAP), a national, nonprofit, nonpartisan, educational, community-based organization is seeking a Director of Training. Founded in 1982, LEAP’s mission is to achieve full participation and equality for Asian Pacific Islander Americans. LEAP offers leadership training, publishes original public policy research and conducts community education to advance a comprehensive strategy of Asian Pacific Islander American empowerment.

Purpose

The Director of Training is responsible for developing state of the art research-based training programs and organizational development interventions that support LEAP’s mission and vision, meet client needs, and that stretch LEAP’s participants to achieve their fullest potential.

Responsibilities

• Establish standards of training delivery, materials and coordination of programs and workshops
• Conduct (or oversee) needs assessments to identify near and future needs of APA community
• Design and develop (or oversee the design and development of) the overall architecture for leadership and community training programs and workshops using research-based material
• Ensure the effective delivery of training, facilitation and consulting services
• Evaluate and redesign/modify/update current program and workshop architecture
• Evaluate overall impact of programs
• Ensure client/customer satisfaction rating on a scale of 4 out of 5
• Build relationships with clients and customers
• Provide organization and program updates, development opportunities and feedback to trainers
• Manage program coordinators and coordinate the project management of Community and Leadership Management Institute programs
• Work with Management Team in identify program opportunities and improvement areas
• Communicate on a regular basis programmatic and related organizational matters to the Management Team
• Keep abreast of cutting-edge knowledge and technologies in instructionaldesign, development and delivery
• Reports directly to the VP of Finance and Administration
• Interface with nationally recognized trainers and consultants
• Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years design, development and delivery of leadership and professional development programs
• Minimum 5 years of organizational consulting experience
• Proven experience in managing staff, programs and departmental budget
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
• Ability to work with team leadership
• Attention to detail and project management
• Exceptional writing, organizational and verbal communication skills
• Exceptional training delivery & presentation skills
• Computer literate (Word, Powerpoint, Filemaker Pro, Internet/e-mail)
• Knowledge of, or experience with Asian Pacific Islander American and/or culturally diverse donors, businesses and community affairs desirable

Education

This position requires a minimum of a Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and the application of concepts, practices and methods from the training, design and development discipline.

Performing work in this occupational field typically requires knowledge and application of supervision, project management, coordination, budgeting, instructional design and training delivery.

Travel

Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed. Valid California Driver's license, auto insurance and access to a car.

A moderate amount of travel is required. Travel is primarily to the following areas: Southern/Central/Northern California, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, Minnesota/Wisconsin, Washington, Texas, and Washington, DC. The employee will typically be given ample notice for all travel.
